The Gateway to the North is Open: Your VW ID.4 Just Got a “Ticket to Ride” to the White Mountains

For years, driving an electric vehicle in the Granite State came with a specific kind of hesitation. We call it “The Notch Fear”—that nagging worry about heading north of Lake Winnisquam into the White Mountains, wondering if you’d find a working charger before your battery dipped into the red. That fear ends now.

Volkswagen has officially announced that owners of the Volkswagen ID.4 and ID. Buzz now have access to the Tesla Supercharger network. This isn’t just a small update; it’s a complete game-changer for how we drive in New England. With access to over 25,000 Superchargers across North America, your electric VW just became the ultimate road-trip machine.

The “Charge Desert” is Gone

If you’ve driven up I-93 or Route 16 lately, you’ve seen them: those sleek rows of red-and-white Tesla chargers sitting at key locations. Until now, we could only drive past them. Now, we can pull in.

For Nucar Volkswagen of Tilton customers, this unlocks two critical “Gateways” that were previously tricky for non-Tesla EVs:

  1. The Kancamagus Loop: You can now confidently head up to North Conway. The Supercharger station at Mountain Valley Mall (32 Mountain Valley Blvd) is open to NACS-enabled vehicles. That means you can ski Cranmore, shop at Settlers Green, and charge up while grabbing a bite, knowing you have plenty of range to tackle the Kancamagus Highway on the way home.
  2. The Commuter Safety Net: Heading south for work? The Supercharger network in Concord (11 Merchants Way) is also open to us. It adds a massive layer of reliability for those daily drives down I-93.

Your Local “Super-Stop”: Right Here in Tilton

Perhaps the best news is right in our backyard. The Tilton Supercharger at 65 Laconia Road—just moments from the dealership and right next to the Tanger Outlets—is compatible with your ID.4.

This turns a mundane charging stop into a local errand run. Plug in your ID. Buzz, walk over to Upper Crust Pizza for a slice or browse the racks at the outlets, and come back to a vehicle ready for the week. It’s no longer about “waiting to charge”; it’s about charging while you live your life.

How to Get Your “Ticket to Ride” (Read This First)

You cannot just pull up to any Tesla stall and plug in. To access these stations, you need to follow these steps to ensure a smooth experience.

  1. Get The Adapter (Don’t Rely on “Magic Docks”)

While a handful of Tesla stations have built-in adapters (called “Magic Docks”), the vast majority—including our local station in Tilton—do not. You need your own NACS (North American Charging Standard) Adapter.

  • Cost: These are available for roughly $200.
  • Rebate: If you are the original owner of a 2025 ID.4 or ID. Buzz, you may be eligible for a $100 rebate on this adapter.
  • Order Yours: Don’t wait for them to go on backorder. Our Parts Department can help!
  1. The App & The “V3” Rule

You will use the Tesla App to locate stations and pay for your charging session. However, you must be careful:

  • Important: Not every Tesla charger works. You generally need V3 or V4 Superchargers. Older “V2” stations found in some parts of New England are not yet compatible with the adapter.
  • Trust But Verify: Before you drive, always check the Official Tesla Find Us Map. Be sure to filter for “Superchargers Open to Non-Tesla” to confirm your stop is compatible.
